Substance Abuse Counseling PDF Print E-mail

ARC, West Los Angeles  California

At ARC clinical therapy is differentiated from substance abuse counseling. We believe that for treatment to be successful each client must gain an understanding of the underlying issues that have contributed to the addictive process. To help with this clinical therapy techniques are employed. But for the immediate need of learning how to cope with substance abuse and/or drug addiction we utilize substance abuse counseling.

Substance abuse counselors are certified counselors who have overcome addiction in their own lives. Each counselor at the center embodies a lifestyle of recovery and serves as a role model for clients beginning the recovery process. Each session is designed to impart the counselors experience in recovery and to impart to the client; education, understanding and coping mechanisms that help sustain their commitment to recovery.

Substance abuse counseling addresses the reality of the alcohol and drug abuse situation. It provides the tools that promote recovery “one day at a time.” Without daily recovery true resolution of personal issues can never be reached. All the clinical insight in the world is useless without the daily application of recovery principals. The purpose of ARC separating clinical therapy and substance abuse counseling is to ensure that each client learns how to maintain daily recovery so that real resolution and understanding of their personal issues can be achieved.
