ARC Provides Effective Clinical Support During Detox

During alcohol and drug detoxification, client feelings and emotions are magnified by the reality and devastation of the current circumstances related to the addictive process. The unfortunate paradox of alcohol and drug addiction is that the alcohol and drugs themselves are the very tool our clients have developed for dealing with these difficult feelings and emotions to begin with. Although each client is usually able to recognize that many of their present problems are a direct result of alcohol and drugs, the intensity of the emotional state overpowers good judgment and relapsing periodically begins to become an option.

At ARC, it is during these difficult early moments that strong clinical continuity of care proves to be a powerful resource that sways clients back to a healthier decision making process. Our clinicians closely monitor and interact with each client during the detox process and periodically initiate “spot sessions” that help the client regain control over heightened impulses to drink or use. During each day of detox the clients primary clinician provides recurrent sessions that support controlled venting of emotions such as despair, sadness, or longing. Through this continuity of care the primary clinician also begins to build the foundation of a clinical relationship based in trust, empathy and understanding.

Our clinical staff works in conjunction with the affiliate medical team to assess where additional medical support might be needed. Issues such as memory problems, lack of clarity and sleep disturbances are often a direct result of post-acute withdrawal. When necessary the clinical team will utilize ancillary medical protocols as a supportive measure to help ensure clients receive the help they need.

Having a skilled clinician by each client’s side during withdrawal instills a renewed sense of hope that transcends the dominance of personal addiction and shows each client a beacon of light beyond the shadow of the detox process.

At ARC each client receives the psychological attention they deserve through the support of the entire clinical team, assuring both clients and family members that the shackles of the addictive process will be lifted and the power of personal choice will be fundamentally restored.
