When choosing an addiction treatment center, it is important to understand what treatment might look like at a given location. Here’s an overview of what to expect when you seek addiction treatment and support here at ARC.
Get a Closer Look at Our Authentic Approach to Treatment
The First Brave Step: Asking for Help
The first step on the road to recovery is to acknowledge that you have a problem. If you know you need help for addiction, you can call us at any time to speak to one of our admissions coordinators. During this initial phone call, we will ask you about the challenges you are facing and help you navigate the insurance process, if you plan to use insurance. Should you choose to start treatment with us, we will recommend that you either start in our medical detox program or move directly into our residential treatment program.
Calls to our admissions team are free and everything you share with us is confidential.
Arriving at ARC
When you arrive at ARC for treatment, we’ll welcome you to one of our private residences located in desirable neighborhoods in West L.A. Your day will consist of different scheduled therapies, though, you’ll typically start each morning with meditation, as well as enjoy sunshine and fresh air during daily and weekly outings. A private chef, access to exercise equipment, and comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces will make you feel right at home during treatment.
Medical Detox: A Fresh Start
Many of our patients start addiction treatment in our supervised medical detox program — the safest way to get clean. The reason we recommend this step for many individuals is this: if you suddenly stop using drugs or alcohol after a period of heavy use, you will go through a brief period of withdrawal, putting yourself at risk for serious physiological and psychological consequences. Here at ARC, we provide access to medical care around the clock during this phase because certain withdrawal symptoms can be severe or even fatal. Attempting to stop cold turkey at home, without medical supervision, could endanger your health or your life.
Our goal at ARC is to ease you through this transition period as comfortably and safely as possible under the supervision of a physician. We will closely monitor you during detox, administer appropriate medications and interventions as necessary to reduce withdrawal symptoms, and help you get the rest that you need.
Once you complete detox and are ready to join your peers in our residential program, your recovery begins to deepen.
Residential Treatment: A Chance for a New Beginning
At ARC, recovery is individualized so you can find exactly what works for you. Working in a home-like environment with small groups in our residential program allows us to tailor treatment to your own unique needs.
Supported by staff and clinicians, you’ll identify the factors that contributed to your addiction, work through shame and trauma and heal from painful past experiences. While we help you establish a pathway to recovery that’s right for you, you’ll start working on the core issues that led you to using in the first place.
Often, drinking, drug use and compulsive disorders are just the tip of the iceberg. These behaviors tend to occur in tandem with both stressful life experiences and mental health issues like depression or anxiety. For many individuals, the experience of a traumatic event, or living in chronic trauma (i.e., domestic violence, child abuse) can lead them to start drinking or using drugs more heavily.
In treatment at ARC, you’ll work at your own pace to face your own unique life challenges — and you’ll identify new ways to overcome those challenges. As you move through our residential program, you’ll learn how to:
- Express feelings, process emotions and successfully resolve conflicts.
- Find healthy, therapeutically appropriate ways to enjoy life that don’t involve substance use.
- Learn and practice the skills you need to manage cravings and triggers.
You’ll leave our program with an all-new toolbox packed full of strategies to help you live without drugs or alcohol, creating a life centered on meaning and purpose.
Just as no two people have the same reasons for using, no two treatment plans are alike at ARC. With an emphasis on evidence-based drug, alcohol and mental health treatment methods, our trauma-informed approach provides you with the foundation necessary to recover and the greatest chance at success.
With care centered around the 12-step model — this is your safe space to recover, led by our highly-trained staff, many who are in recovery themselves.
Our Clinical Team
At ARC, recovery is individualized so you can find exactly what works for you. Working in a home-like environment with small groups allows us to tailor treatment to your own unique needs. Our highly trained staff will show you how it’s done.
In our residential program, you’ll work with an experienced, comprehensive clinical team: an ancillary physician, a psychiatrist specializing in addictions, a therapist and a certified case manager. Our clinicians are trained in a wide variety of modalities and specialties including sex-addiction treatment and mindfulness-based addiction and trauma treatment.
Your treatment team will work collaboratively to make sure that you are therapeutically engaged in the process — attending therapy, outside meetings, weekly outings and more — and that your loved ones and referring providers are updated regularly (if you give us permission to update them regarding your treatment).
Support All the Way Through Aftercare … and Beyond
Once you’ve made your way through treatment and have committed to recovery, we’ll get you ready for discharge and set up for success. We’ll send you home with all the resources you’ll need to thrive in recovery, offering you information about local 12-step and other support groups, including groups offered here at ARC. We’ll offer tips to help you find sponsors and mentors who will assist with strategies to make the transition out of treatment seamless. You’ll always be part of the ARC family and we hope you return to participate in events with others in our alumni program. Staying connected as an alumni member is essential to creating a long-lasting recovery.
